How to scrap your car

Scrapping your car or van couldn't be simpler when you use our free scrap car collection service. Just follow these 4 easy steps:

  1. Phone us at Legal Disposal on 0800 612 8944 (or fill out our on-line form!) and tell us the details of your scrap car and arrange a good time it to be collected.
  2. We'll pick up the vehicle and its logbook (V5C) at the arranged time. Alternatively, you can send the logbook to us beforehand. (If you do not have the logbook we can still scrap the car but you will need to let us know prior to us towing it away and you will need to inform the DVLA in writing of your intention to have the car scrapped.) If we pick up the logbook we will leave you with section 9. If you mail it to us instead it is best to remove section 9 beforehand.
  3. Mail the section 9 (of the V5C) to the DVLA. Meanwhile, we'll send the rest of the logbook to the DVLA and inform them that the vehicle is now off the road (make a SORN) and is ready to be de-registered.
  4. Within about 4 to 6 weeks you should receive notification by the DVLA that the vehicle has been de-registered.
